The General Medical Council has released their list of registered doctors from their start in 1858 to 1950, which includes the entry for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from 1883. No word on whether a certain John H. Watson is listed.

It’ll be available online at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/, but not for free which I think goes a little against the drive to make historical records available – sure it’s available, but you have to pay £18.95 a month to have access to the information.

If anyone is researching their family tree and has access to the information and feels the urge to check out ACD’s entry on the GMC’s database, as well as any information as part of census, then let me know! I’d be interested to see what it says.
